Where Logic and affordability go hand-in-hand
From Caribbean fun and sun or European charm to the natural splendors of Alaska or Hawaii, a cruise provides picturesque destinations to celebrate your love, while enjoying all the amenities, entertainment venues, and pampering the ship and crew has to offer. Not to mention, a cruise provides significant value, with accommodations, food and entertainment included in one price. As well as the additional convenience of being able to see multiple destinations virtually hassle-free, while only having to pack/unpack once!
Whether you want a simple wedding or an all out bash with friends and family, each cruise line offers their own onboard packages, with plenty of optional add-ons to heighten the experience. Most cruise lines supply a coordinator to handle all the details such as the ceremony, menu, cake, flowers, and music, and a professional photographer is usually included to capture the moments. Some even include or help secure a wedding license, depending on where the marriage takes place. Guidelines regarding who can conduct the ceremony and where it can take place vary by cruise line and it is important to plan far enough in advance to arrange for paperwork and licensing.
My “personal favorite” for weddings at sea is Princess (hands down) as they offer a feature no other cruise lines have yet to match. The ability to have your ceremony conducted in the beautiful adorned chapel on board the ship, and for any and all family or friends unable to attend the cruise and celebrate the event along with you, they can view your special moment via satellite on the web absolutely free from anywhere in the world they may be. How cool is that?
For the ever popular Shore-side events, the bride and groom must be paying passengers; however, depending on the cruise line, wedding guests not actually going on the voyage are usually allowed to come onboard for a few hours to participate in the wedding festivities (ceremony and reception) prior to the ship’s departure. (ask me about this option which is quite popular here in Florida ports)
All of the cruise lines offer weddings in some of the world’s most beautiful and unique locations. Disney offers ceremonies on their own private island, Castaway Cay; Royal Caribbean’s “Explorer Weddings” provide the opportunity to wed in such places as a European castle, in a rainforest, or on FlowRider (their onboard surf simulator); or exchange vows on an uninhabited South Pacific island with Regent Seven Seas Cruises. In most cases, if the port is on the itinerary, a shore side wedding can be arranged. Oftentimes the Cruise lines will be able to offer you a turn-key service complete with licensing assistance and a local officiant.
Since you’re already on a vacation, combining a wedding and honeymoon into one package provides a smooth transition from the wedding event to celebrating your honeymoon the rest of the trip. Honeymoon packages, depending on cruise line and package selected, could include a combination of romantic touches such as breakfast in bed, a bottle of champagne, gourmet chocolates, a dinner for two, and a personalized memento.
How about a Destination Wedding
Destination weddings are an exciting choice for couples who want to tie the knot in a way that’s out of the ordinary. Now, more of them are discovering that a cruise is one of the best and easiest ways to hold a destination wedding.
Cruises offer an incredible variety of locations for a destination wedding, from the islands of the Caribbean to Europe, Alaska, South America, the South Pacific and beyond. While a few cruise ships (like those among the “Love Boat Fleet”) are permitted to marry couples while at sea, however legal implications require most ships to host weddings only when in port. The cruise line will arrange for a non-denominational minister, judge or other qualified official to conduct the ceremony, or if you are planning this event at Port Canaveral you can just give me a call directly. I am a Florida Wedding Officiant and can help you with this.
One fabulous benefit of being married on a cruise is that the cruise line will provide you with the services of a wedding coordinator. The coordinator will help you arrange every detail of your ceremony, from music and flowers to photography, video recording, formal wear and a wedding cake. Food can range from light refreshments to a multi-course, sit-down dinner for you and your wedding guests.
If you want to be married on land, the cruise line’s wedding coordinator will work with on-shore providers to make sure everything is arranged beautifully. Depending on your itinerary, your coordinator may be able to suggest some truly spectacular settings for your vows: perhaps a sunlit beach, a sparkling glacier or a European garden.
Another major benefit of a cruise-based wedding is that the ceremony can blend seamlessly into a memorable honeymoon. You’ll sail to beautiful, interesting ports of call while enjoying the amenities of the ship. Every evening includes great dining, music and entertainment all right outside your stateroom door.
Be aware that the options for wedding flowers, music, food and photography on a cruise ship may not be as extensive as those in your hometown. However, the cruise line will work with you to ensure your ceremony and celebration are suited to your taste and budget. In fact, cruise ship weddings are often far less expensive than traditional weddings.
