Some of things available for,
our Active Adult Travelers to Do
First things first! Let me explain what MY MEANING of the term “Active Adult” really describes. If put into an age range, it would run from 40 to 140. I know some 92 year olds that run circles around me all day long, and still have enough left to hit the dance floor each night. So the term active adults, merely is just primarily adult couples or singles who are basically childless (or traveling as such), and have an avid interest in traveling and cruising. Now that the most critical question regarding this subject matter has been cleared up, I just thought today it would be appropriate to devote the blog space to our Active Adult Travelers. Just what are Active Adults doing these days in the areas of Travel related adventures? Well they are doing a lot of varied things, and doing them in really big ways………………………….
First, there are the Thrill Seekers– Our Hang Gliding, Bungee Jumping, Zip Lining, Rock Climbing/Repelling, River Rapids Riding, Para Gliding/Sailing, Jet Skiing , as well as Extreme Walking/Hiking Trailer’s. These are groups of folks that like to frequent Europe, (especially France, Germany, Spain, and Italy). They tend to cruise places such as Costa Rica, Rio,(South America), Cabo, and generally many destinations within the Southern Caribbean.
Next, we have the DeAging Technique Travelers – Who are made up of our Healthier Lifestyle Choice, Spa Enthusiasts, Artistically driven, Poetical and Informed, Life Enhancement and Enrichment Classroom attending, Pilate Performing People, who are mainly Cruiseship Specific seeking, primarily those cruise ships, lines, (and/or destinations and resorts), that offer them the most (or the best) in the way of alternative lifestyle environments possible. These special sects of folks can normally be found on Crystal, Seaborne, Regent, Holland America, and Celebrity brands of ships, with destinations that are generally off the beaten paths. They normally do not gravitate towards mass market cruise lines, or the touristy travel resorts and destinations.
While somewhat akin to the DeAging Technique folks, is our next category of Active Adults I generally think of as our Permission to Unwind Travelers – These are folks who are generally recently retired and (or at least own up to the fact they) have more time on their hands to be able to “see more” and “do more”. While they may not know exactly “what or where” they would like to go, they are open to new ideas, and suggestions on enhancing their present lifestyle (past experiences), and appreciate having alternatives to be able to choose from. These folks are often “move-up” driven to opt for upgrading from coach to first class, or from balcony to a suite, or maybe from a branded hotel to an upscale 4 or five-star accommodation, and in the case of a cruise line from “premium” or “mass market” line to a “luxury” cruise line. This is probably the largest component of our Active Adult customer base.
Then, we have our Experimental Seeking Travelers– Who are a combination of many backgrounds and cultures seeking new age (or as generally referred to nowadays as “Holistic” and/or “Natural”) life experiences. Things such as Zen, Tai Chi, Buddhism, and the self- centering adult seeker, as well as the once and still ever popular natural healing opportunistically motivated. Their travel places of choice include stops or visits to Canada, Australia-New Zealand, South America, and the Far East (to name just a few favorites).
Lastly, but by no means least, we have our true to life “Bucket Listers” – Who are those people determined to live life to the fullest while being able to check off (one or more) of their Bucket List destinations, or activities per travel trek they embark on. These places (and activities) can and are as varied as the people themselves. They are actually very fun to be with, but seldom can be found traveling in groups, other than membership type group travels, or those group deals we find (and with their knowledge and consent) place them into to enable them to garner the best value for their travel dollar.
Bottom line is that our Active Adult travel adventure seekers come from just about every background and walk of life. They like to be understood, listened to, and are open to suggestions that bring improvement to their travel and life. They are the last bastion of loyal customers. We were brought up in the day of rewarding someone with their business, provided the service and product satisfied all of their desires and needs, and was fairly and competitively priced, and dealt with honestly and ethically. Trust and confidence are highly merited with them, but they are appreciative and pleasurable to work with. I find myself more akin to this group of travelers myself.
So, did you hear any things that describe your interests or outlook on travel wants, or wishes. It’s also not uncommon to find that you actually have traits which span a couple of these categories, while one would probably be (most prevalent) in your lifestyle description. So what does it mean as far a category you rank yourself in…..not a darn thing. It just is what it is. There is no hidden or deep meaning to any of this. I thought it might be nice to let folks know that they may not be as different as they may have previously thought! We are all travelers, and seekers of knowledge. As Mark Twain once said, “Travel is the true enemy of illiteracy”. and he also said “There is no unhappiness quite like the misery of sighting land again, after a cheerful, carefree voyage”! I can say that I have often felt as this gentlemanly statesman so eloquently put it. Enjoy your travels, and may they always bring you safely home, eager for the next adventure lesson to commence!-Cruise with Mike
